Does anyone have a favourite lentils or other pulse recipe?
I need to increase my protein intake so have upped the fish but do love my pulses and only really have one favourite recipe. I could eat it 3 times a week but I reckon the family might start (smelling) revolting!!! ;D
I'm also going to try making my own hummus (no, VB not the stuff in your soil). I've got a plain recipe for that, anyone know how to perk it up a bit? ;D

I like to eat vegetarian meals when Barry has his steak or lamb but I don't have recipes as such. I make things up as I go along as it is only me that will be eating it ;D I sometimes make a cottage pie thingy with lentils(the orange ones),onions ,garlic, chopped carrot and celery cooked in some stock (I like using Marigold bouillon).I put this in a pie dish and put some sweet potato and potato mash on top then bake till golden.I sometimes sprinkle a little bit of grated cheese on top as well The same base mixture makes a good soup - even better with a little bit of bacon in it - sorry Do you use Quorn Skarloey?

My favourite dish is a cottage pie. ;D Lentils, split peas and chickpeas added to chunks of onion, carrot, swede and parsnip that have been whizzed in the food processor till tiny and then gently fried in a little butter. Then add a little mace and cayenne pepper, mixed herbs or just sage. Lovely. I can get the kids to eat Quorn mince but they're not too keen on the texture of the chunks. I must google a lentil based soup.... didn't think of that. ;D And I think you need lots and lots of room to grow your own chickpeas VB and better weather too.

Skarloey, Lentil soup is really lovely and the easiest thing in the world. I always use lentils to thicken soups rather than spuds as the soup doesn't separate out afterwards. My usual soup is onions, leeks, celery, carrots, parsnips and a few scoops of lentils. it only takes 20-30 mins for a big pot to cook up then whizz in blender. Also, another nice lentil recipe is to combine cooked red split lentils with fine bulgur and make little croquets out of the mix. Put a layer of raw dry bulgur into a tray, cover with cooked lentils and some of the cooking water. Allow the bulgur to soak up the water, then mix together. After mixing form a sort of volcano shaped mound and add some sauteed onions along with a drizzle of the oil they were cooked in into the "crater". Then mix whole lot together (with hands no mincing around with spoons please! ) and roll into croquets/meat ball shapes. Really yummy served with nice fresh salad and a bit of tzatziki for dipping!

Oh and a good way to perk up hummus is to add freshly chopped coriander
